Measurements of Stability Margins and Current Distribution in Large-Scale Nb3Sn Cable-in-Conduit Conductors

چکیده
For testing large-scale cable-in-conduit conductors, several practical experimental techniques have been developed to specifically address the issues of conductor stability. The following described techniques enable experimentalists to quantify the effects and thus provide useful tools ro improve the conductor performapce in magnet applications. In this paper, we present two experimental techniques: a) stability margin calibration and b) current distribution. Both are much needed in the laboratory for testing the conductor stability.

Besides the temperature and magnetic field, the strain and stress state of the superconducting Nb3Sn wires in multi-stage twisted cable-in-conduit conductors (CICCs), as applied in ITER or high field magnets, strongly influence their transport properties. For an accurate quantitative prediction of the performance and a proper understanding of the underlying phenomena, a detailed analysis of the...

An imbalance in the transport current among the strands of a Cable-in-Conduit conductors (CICC) can be associated with the change of their performance. In order to understand and improve the performance of CICC’s, it is essential to study the current imbalance. This paper focuses on the study of the current imbalance in two short samples of the SeCRETS (Segregated Copper Ratio Experiment on Tra...

Accurate prediction of the performance of Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit-conductors (CICCs) is challenging but critical for the design of high field magnets such as the series connected hybrid (SCH) magnet currently under development at the NHMFL. With various CICC tests performed for EFDA dipole magnet and ITER, we present the Florida electro-mechanical cable model (FEMCAM) and demonstrate that it is ...
